Santagold

I ordered her CD and just got it in the mail today. I'm very pleased with what I hear. Many compare her to M.I.A, but if you really listen to the two, you notice the difference. Personally, I prefer Santagold's music to M.I.A's. There seems to be more substance in the words and the music. She seems to have more talent, vocally and expressively. I was pleased. I would recommend this album for people who enjoy music that is different, yet mainstream. Its like listening to a sound experiment. Very awesome.

Disturbia-Rihanna

Disturbia - You have to give it up to whoever directed this video. It's sick. It's the new age "Thriller." Yes, I said "Thriller." The editor did a great job. The different looks they put Rihanna in are genius. The video shots are genius. The whole thing is genius. Rihanna worked hard too, because she played her parts extremely well. She comes across as a sort of shy girl, but put her in front of a camera and tell her what you're looking for and you'll get it.

Janelle Monae-Metropolis

I never thought a CD of only 7 songs could ever be satisfying to my needs. Yet, I find myself bumping this album in my car every morning. The experimentation sort of reminds me of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. She is a sound you've never heard before but have been waiting to hear. I can't pick a favorite between Many Moons, Cybertronic Purgatory, and Sincerely Jane. They're all so refreshing. Buy it. You won't regret it. It's for ears of all genre.

Since when does the wife of an NFL player speak at a presidential rally? Why did she feel the need? Why would they let her? If you ask me, that just makes them look worse. They letting anyone speak at their rallies? Not a smart move. Elisabeth, you're cool on The View and I suggest you stay put. Your opinion is no more important than anyone else's who isn't a politician. Keep your opinions on The View.

Jennifer Hudson: Sorry

Man.... As many of you know, Jennifer Hudson's life sucks right now. Her sister's boyfriend (now ex-boyfriend) killed her mother and brother and kidnapped her nephew a few days ago. What a dick. You think you love someone and then they do you wrong, right? You think you know someone. What the hell kind of person kills their girlfriend's mom? What kind of "loved one" kills your mom and brother? How could anyone fool you so much? Stories say he had just been released from prison for attempted murder. So now it makes more sense. And apparantly, yesterday they found the nephew. He was dead. Now no one knows for sure that the man killed his son or step-son or whatever the relationship was...... BULLSHIT. The man's a murdurer. He already killed 2, so what's another to him? Of course it was him. I better not see that nigga on the street. I know you're thinking, "What the hell are you gonna do?" I'm gonna kill him, that's what. Just kidding. My future isn't worth him. But I would call the police. As much as I make fun of Jennifer about her bad choice in clother, bad choice in songs, and bad chice in men, I empathize for her during this hard time. I have no idea the pain she's going through, and I hope I never will have to feel it. But I'm praying that that horrible man is killed, and that everything will be okay with the rest of the family.

Kanye's New CD

Yes.  If you haven't already heard, he's singing on every track.  YES.  Risky move for Mr. West, for a rapper who can't REALLY sing to start singing.  He might win some, but most likely he'll lose more.  It's like when a basketball player starts rapping.  C'mon people.  You're going to naturally make fun of the poor guy.  Most likely, he sucks.  I know we've all heard "Love Lockdown," Kanye's new single.  I know of a few who withdrew their respect for him for it.  Why? I don't know.  I still respect him.  When I listen to his CD, I will listen with open, unbiased ears.  However, for others who aren't die-hard, loyal Kanye West fans, we'll have to wait and see.  I hope for the best for him.  I respect risk-takers.

Are You Registered To Vote?

What an important year this is.  This is, I'm sure, the most controversial presidential race America has ever seen.  And with African Americans having such a low count of registered voters, we definitely need to step it up.  If you aren't registered to vote by now, you're late.  Its so easy.

Step 1: Go to your local post office.

Step 2: Kindly ask the person at the counter for a voters registration form.

Step 3: Fill it out, there or at home.

Step 4: Follow the instructions on the form, and slip the necessary form into the closest public      mailbox.

And you're registered!!!

VOTE
OR
DIE.

Saturday-Jazz At Drew

You probably never heard of it because I didn't until I was asked to help out in it.  But if you're serious about music, you would've loved it.

it was an all day event. long as EVER. thought we wouldnt like that but to our suprised we enjoyed ourselves very much.
i got the luxury of having access to almost everything there because i was like the assistant to the creative director or something. MR. REGGIE ANDREWS the great. so i just basically had to help out with w.e he did, mainly getting the orchestra together to play.  HIP HOP ORCHESTRA. WTF!!! THEY WERE NICE!!!!
also, a band who's an old time friend of my family, Third World, they happened to be the closing act.  how awesome right?  u know what that means. free tickets for the homies. yup. so i got my boy CHARL3ZzZ, my boy Lux, and my cousin J free tickets. and damn were those tickets expensive too.....
so we showed up around 2 or so, went to the back vip room or w.e to wait until it was time for the orchestra to play. kool kool..... they had a little classical jam session it was nice very nice. got time to go i got everybody together and in place backstage.  then we all piled onto the stage. Lux and I helped set things up on stage and in turn we got to stay onstage for the performance. AWESOME! got to watch Malcom Jamal Warner and his band and the orchestra all do their thing.
that was great.  i had to stay with mr. andrews for a little after that to help with  sum extras but once that was over i rolled with the posse (me, CHARL3ZzZ, j, jeffrey, lux, and travi).  we went from booth to booth, spot to spot, just watching the performances and cheing out the merchandise.  made a lotta great hookups in the meantime.
Lux sang onstage with the Shi-Lites!!!! WTF!!!! IT WAS AWESOME!!! he was singing better than they were and they had to snatch his mic from him. like damn let the boy shine if he wants to sheesh. am i right?
the best part of thee night.....sitting on stage during th Third World performances.  now let me tll you.... if youve never been to a reggae concert in your life, shame on you.  reggae artists put on the greatest performances.  and i gotta say.....THird World rocked that shit.  they were the best performance of the day. no lie.  sorry to the rest that performed, but you didnt compare dudes im sorry.  you wanna hear some good music? go to a reggae concert dude.  so not only did we get to see the performance, we got to sit onstage during it. THE WHOLE POSSE!!! we took pictures from onstage.  Cat did a few solos, they were awesome.... but the highlights of their performances dude.  Tony (the drummer) on the djembe, jammin like he was insane.  got everybody moving. no joke.  then the finale.  they made everyone think the show was over.  nope. wasnt. Cat pulled out his electric cello (WTF!!!) and played their signature number.  doesnt even have a name its just awesome.  and you dont know what i mean until u see the performance in person.  RIDICULOUS.
well that day turned out great.  highlight of my month.  cholled at the aunt n uncles house for a few late night pool games and then headed back to the crib for some revitalization, and it all made for an awesome day. THANKS THIRD WORLD AND THANKS MR. ANDREWS FOR A GREAT TIME.
and if your serious about music, you miiiight wanna keep ur eyes peeled for the next annual. thats JAZZ AT DREW. this was the 18th annual, so next will be the 19th annual.  dont miss it. trust me.  oh yeas, and keep a lookout for Third World performances near you! as well as Malcom Jamal Warner and his band, and check for their CD.  beautiful poetry dude.  im giving u guys this resource, use it mofo.

This whole debate process.....

U know what?
I'm kinda tired of this whole campaign process...
I suppose its necessary cuz it gives each candidate time to mess up.....
But I think its been enough.
What gets to me is what these candidates aren't saying.
They go back and forth about who's gonna raise taxes and blah and blah when really they could say it so simply.
Apparently, Obama is raising taxes on people who make above $250,000 a year and McCain is lowering taxes for people that make $250,000 or more. I'm with Obama on this one. Let the people who can afford more taxes help out a little. When I'm rich I'll be sayin the same thing. It all makes sense, right?
That was the main thing I wanted to hear during their debate. Just have to speak on it.

OJ Simpson FINALLY found guilty!

OJ Simpson was found guilty on like 12 counts yesterday dude.....
Finally! That bastard.....
Kidnapping, assault, and burglary are the main ones.
Guitly! Every single count!
I know them white folks are haaaaappy now.....
Shit..... me too! Lol
Bet he wishes he woulda had Johnny Cochran now huh
Dumbass shouldn't have done any more stupid shit to put him in jail.
That man is truly stupid.
Johnny Cochrans prolly mad wherever he is, whether its up top or down below.....
Cuz idk the guy. U never know.
He's prolly thinkin damn after all that yo dumbass gonna go to jail anyway
Haha
Karma bitch!
It always gets back around.....

rain rain....

Go away....
Don't come back another day.....

cuz I just got my hair done and I don't need that....

When Opportunity Knocks....

U better answer that shit......
I recently got an opportunity to be the assistant for thee great Reggie Andrews! What a dude. He's kewl.
He has his moments, but he's kewl.
You probably don't know who this dude is....
Well alright.
U know that song, "whip it babe, just whip it right, whip it babe, whip it all night"
Courtesy of Mr. Andrews!
He used to be the recording engineer for Earth, Wind, and Fire.
Haha how awesome!
He used to mix down their albums!
Well my mom is old friends with the guy
Like last year or so she heard him on the radio asking for kids who were serious about music
That turned into me rehersing with his jazz band at Locke
Learned a lot from that
Next thing u know he calls me outta the blue asking for referals to kids from my school, colored kids, who play string instruments. He was putting together an all colored orchestra to play for Malcom Jamal Warner.
Yes! Theo Huxtable!
If u didn't already know he does spoken word
Very beautifully I must add
And he plays bass
So this orchestra is gonna play live with malcoms band at this event
Like a concert really
Lotsa great musicians and artists performing
And I've gotten the OPPORTUNITY (key word for today) to assist Mr. Andrew in his duties.
Don't know exactly what that means but I know its a great opportunity
First off, the music sounds great, so that alone was enough to get me to participate
You know I don't get too many chances to work with musicians, you know, who actually play INSTRUMENTS let alone musicians of other genres.....
This will not be passed up.
And B, I'm getting paid!
I accepted befor I knew so don't go there....
But mulaaaaaa, that does definitely help

But damn it. There's always a conflict isn't there....
Quite minor, but conflicts nonetheless.
First, I'm missing YBS.....
Didn't wanna do that
Plus I heard their taking a psat.....
WTF! Why on the same day do these things have to occur.....?
Number 2.
Its raining.
And of course.....
The event is outside.
and to pile on top......
I'm in the hair salon, as I type, getting my hair done.
This should be interesting.....

what an awesome video.

Obama vs. McCain

If I could vote, I'd vote for Barack [known to me as Barama] and let me tell you why.

Barama is against the war.  McCain is for the war.  I'm more of a peaceful person myself, so of course I'm against the war.  I still can't figure out why anyone would be for the war.  Veterans are going crazy, and many don't even make it to being called a veteran.  All that's going on is killing.  Since when was death a good thing?  Someone has the power to stop this.  I know the president can.  One thing I still don't get is how a former prisoner of war could possibly be in favor of the torture he endured.  People are strange.....

Barama is down-to-earth, charismatic, and civilized, and so is his wife.  He's so smart with every move he makes.  The first thing he did, which was brilliant, was he wrote a book about all the dirt he did in Chicago.  Now when all these reporters and McCain lovers try to bring up dirt on him he can say "I told them first."  Another example of his brilliance and nonchalant moves was his response to the  magazine cover illustrating he and his wife with turbans and guns burning the American flag in the fireplace.  If I'm not mistaken, he responded by saying that while he and his wife were offended, it's the Muslims that should be offended and who deserve the apology.  BARAMA: 2, MCCAIN: 0.

Barama is brilliant.  He and his wife graduated at the top of their law classes.  That is one smart family.  People have the nerve to say they won't vote for him for lack of experience.  I say he's a brilliant man, and definitely qualified to be the next president.  Besides, McCain is how old? 70-something?  His face looks like it's ready to fall off and he looks like he's about to tip over and not get up.  He'll probably die within the next 4 years.  Sorry to those that love the guy, but be realistic.  I'm sure those years of torture he went through back in his day have done their damage.  I don't think he's totally sane.

Most people turn the presidetial race into a race between the presidents wives, and most of the nominees' wives become characterized by their husbands.  The first time I saw Barama on TV, they were interviewing him on the news and they asked him something about his wife's various projects to make the world a better place.  His response was "You'll have to ask her."  I just thought that was so cool of him.  He claimed that he and his wife work on their projects seperately and that she's independent enough to handle her projects and interviews herself.  I love her independence.  She's the role-model type.  I have yet to hear anything about Mrs. McCain.  Everytime I see her, she's holding hands with her husband at a press conference and waving to the crowd.  How's that for independence?

To sum it up, Barama's awesome.  He gets my vote.

hello! my name is sydney

i just realized i never introduced myself.....

im sydney.  i was born and raised in los angeles.  i love art and creativity.  i play drums, piano and guitar.  i make beats every now and again.  i produce out of my bedroom, where my studio is set up.  i love music.  i love meeting new people, especially musicians.  i dont care what you play or if you sing, rap, write or produce.  i'd just love to meet you and talk about music.  i love working with new people.

here's some things i never really addressed:

i feel more comfortable around boys than i do around girls.  that seems to be my comfort zone, so if you know me and you ever wondered why im always with guys, no, im not gay, i just can be myself more around boys i guess.  i grew up surrounded by guys, in my neighborhood, in my family... i used to be a tom-boy.  i played basketball.  i can relate.  and they can too.  girls come with a lot of drama usually.  im not with all that. i'm pretty simple, easy to please me, just like to chill. i do like boys [dont get confused] lol.

i dont wear too much jewelry.  same necklace everyday.  hear no evil, breast cancer awareness.  same little thingys around my wrist everyday.  you never know when youll need a hair tie.  but i love clothes.  love to experiment with what i wear and new styles that come to mind. love shopping at thrift stores.  thats where you find the best stuff.  and if you like to customize clothes thrift shops are perfect because everythings cheap so if you mess up you wont feel too bad.  i love shopping.  love trying on new looks that i never seen myself wearing.  so if you see me in a buncha different kinds of styles, its because im indecisive and i cant pick which style is right for me. i pick them all.  my socks rarely match.  not a statement, just laziness.  don't like looking for matches.  my grandmother doesnt think i should go out in public with my socks not matching.  i just say "ehhh...."

i hate cleaning my room. i'll sweep or clean windows and dust any other part of the house all day, but not my room.  i always have people in my room.  thats where the studio is.  it's usually pretty messy in here.  my mom says "how can you have people in here with it looking like this? do you just not care?" i just dont care.  i understand where she's coming from.  but im sure the people that come in here know me well enough to understand where im coming from as well.  i dont like cleaning my room.

i hate when someone is on someone elses nuts.  especially when its a group of people who just think someone is sooo cooool.  i know you guys know what im talking about.  usually they arent all that great.  no hate involved.  sometimes they are pretty cool.  but you still should get off  of their nuts and be who you are.  some people fall so deeply in love with someones style they make it their own.  if your true self is a nut-rider, then all power to you. be yourself.  but if youre just trying to run from who you really are to be "cool" because you know the true you isnt, get it together.

people annoy me very easily.  usually its when someone is doing too much or trying to hard or being fake.  sometimes people are just plain irritating.  but i seem to always find something about someone that annoys me.  my best friend thinks its a problem.  so while i love to meet new people, usually something about them annoys me.  but i find a handful thats cool and those are the people i surround myself with.

oh dear. im rambling.  i guess i'll add more another time.

-syd

Cliques vs. Cliques

how stupid does that sound?

i was never a clique person myself. one because i'm pretty awesome by msyelf, and two because the drama involved in cliques is pretty dumb and i happen to be friends with a lotta people from a whole buncha different cliques.  i refuse to burn bridges over some bitch shit.  all the problems and beefs that arise over "misunderstandings" and conflicts between people are pointless.  you get into an irrelevant argument with someone from another clique, then the rest of your clique doesnt like that person, then the rest of their clique doesnt like you, then theres too beefing cliques?  then if you arent in a clique people from one clique try to [lowball] get you on their side.  and that's from personal experience.  c'mon dude. UNNECESSARY. some people seem to just need excitement in their lives, so they purposely disrespect someone to have something to look forward to the next day.  why?  you always think someones cool til they start some shit...... so sad how these cliques are labeling and separating people.

and that's why i'm not in one and never will be.

[and no, Charlez isn't a clique]

N.E.R.D.- "Seeing Sounds"

Great.
N.E.R.D. is the type of music you have to get used to.  But once you do, you can't get over it.  I know the first song I heard by them was "Am I High".  I was like "uhhhh okay I guess."  Today, that's one of my favorite songs on earth.
The was money well spent.  Nowadays I only buy a CD if the artist deserves the money.  They do, so I bought it.  Its one of those CDs you can pop in and you don't have to touch anything until it's over lol you know you don't have to be picky and switching between songs because you don't like number 3, 7, and 9.  If you're a fan of this kind of music, I can almost gurantee you'll like every song.
I don't know about all you non-musicians out there, but I do know that the musicians can agree with me on this: the title of the album is perfect.  I know it may be different for everyone, but when I close my eyes listening to music I see colors and tye-dye and shapes and scenarios and swirls.
Well anyways, I just thught I'd give Pharrell, Chad, and Shae some credit for this one.

JOB WELL DONE.

Madonna- "Hard Candy"

CD's awesome yo.
I just got it in the mail today.  There's not really any CD players in my house, so I went out to the car and popped it in and I didn't leave until it was over.  Not for discipline, but because it's that extravagant.  Yes, EXTRAVAGANT.  Listen to this CD and honestly tell me you don't like it.  If you can, hey, kudos.  But it's hard to do lol.
I only buy CDs that are worth my money.  And, well, I bought this one.  There you go.

GO BUY IT!  She, The Neptunes, and Timbaland deserve the money.

idk man.....

people are doing too much.....

Charlezzz

Watch out for this guy.....
Charlezzz is the best Los Angeles has to offer right now when it comes to hip hop artists.  And you can never really understand exactly what I mean until you hear him in person.   But check out his myspace anyways....

He's my brother.  I'm his DJ.
He really is the best I've heard out of my city for his age.  I'm not even just saying that cause he's my brodie.  He really is great.  Just pay attention to the things he says from now on.  If you don't you'll wish you had....

BMW: Prejudice Customer Service

So the story starts out with my drivers license in my near future and my dad deciding to get a new car so that i can have his old one.

This weekend my brother, father and I go car shopping and test driving.  When we walked into the Lexus dealership, we were immediately greeted and dealt with.  They gave us a salesman who tended to our every need.  But the next day when we decide to check out some BMWs, we got a totally different experience.  Please keep in mind that we are all black.

We first mistakedly walked into a used BMW dealership.  My brother and I tried to sit inside of a few of the cars for fun, but they were all locked.  One salesman even quietly laughed at me as I tried to open one of the locked cars.  Once we realized our mistake we asked a salewoman where the new BMW dealership was.  She replied that it was across the street.  We thanked her and made our way to the door.  I couldn't help but notice the same salesman sitting behind her giggling to himself and looking at us, as if to say "Like they can afford a new BMW."  He then tended to a white man that came in after us, following him and us into the new BMW dealership across the street. That was the first sign.

We walked into the new BMW dealership.  We got no service.  There were plenty of salesman sitting around doing nothing, but for some reason none of them felt the need to ask if we needed help.  As the three of us wandered around aimlessly, wondering when someone would greet us, my brother and I realized that my dad was no longer in the room.  I then noticed the same salesman from the used BMW dealership smirking in our direction once again.  My brother and I got the hint that we weren't wanted there, so we took our cue, found my dad, and left as quickly as possible.

As we walked towards the Lexus dealership a block away, my dad confirmed my brother and my assumption.  "They didn't think I could afford a BMW.  They obviously don't know me."

Lifestyle Inc.

Okay so........
Lifestyle Inc is something I started but I'm not quite sure what it is.......
It began as the name of a clothing line I was going to make and now its becoming a little more on its own.
So the only reason I feel the need to tell you guys this is....

thanks.
